TL:DR The story itself was excellent, the marketing, packaging and sale of parts of the story killed a good portion of my esteem for ths work.I do not begrudge authors their due coin. Having to drum up their readers, groom a fan base, keep their work on the front pages is hard work and that’s on top of producing some great fiction for the titillation of those of us with filthy minds who also want great fiction. Addison Cain is an author who has a 99% buy rate from me. While I understand that authors have a huge amount of blood, sweat and tears into each offering and deserve adaquate compensation, I cannot give this story more than 3 stars because it was such a short read. While Addison Cain is one of the very few who can actually pack enough plot into a short offering, a part of a whole story, I feel cheated.So I will no longer buy any books that are not stand alone, or the complete boxed set. I would urge authors to complete the entire story and as you submit book one, also submit the entire boxed set for the $10-12 we will end up paying for the entire story. It is a win/win because the author can continue to slowly tease out portions of the entire story, it allows readers like me to bypass the marketing hype and plunk our money down on what will surely be worth the full price! Those who don’t want to take a chance on the full boxed set, can buy portions that are released at set time frames.This story is very very good! Worth the full price, if Wren’s song ends up being 4 books, of $10.00 I fully enjoyed book 3, even though I am beyond frustrated that the story was actually only 100 pages long. (Because the last 27 pages are promos for her other books) There was a lot of movement in this book. Addison Cain is beyond compare when it comes to redeeming her anti hero’s, and these three might be the absolute worst her sick mind (and I mean that in the very best way) has produced thus far.Book 3 saw the aftermath of her Omega Rage, further debasement, brutal cruelty, and Cain is nuanced and sophisticated in her characters cruelty, and ended with what is a glimmer of hope and the ground work for an eventual decently settled ending. But Cain has really out done herself in creating this dystopian world in which people are either victims or perpetrators so I am very eager to see how she redeems these 3 Alphas and creates a world that could remotely be considered safe enough for happiness.
Other reviewers have pointed out that to buy this book in its entirety (assuming the 4th ‘book’ will actually conclude the story) will cost $10. Ok, big deal just publish the entire book, this piece-mealing of 7 chapters at a time over the course of 5 months has lost its appeal. I like this story, but after ‘book 4’ is finally released, I will never purchase another book by this author again—it’s just not worth it. This type of marketing strategy is annoying and I really hope she pays attention to how it’s alienating potential buyers. Just release a complete book. Others do it and make money.
Addison Cain can write there is no doubt about that. And I love reading her books BUT I'm not satisfied with the long wait and price for such a short book. At this length the books (more like snippets) should come way quicker than they do and cost less. The cliffhangers suck too, it's not hard to leave the book at a neutral place while we have to wait months for just a 100 pages or so. Not sure if I will continue on with the series, maybe if the next one comes out quick but I'm tired of getting invested in series and having to be at the authors mercy on when I can get my hands on the next book. I'll point out the writing of the book deserves 5 stars, the books price,length, and the brutal wait between books deserves 1 star. I mean we had nearly a 5 month wait for this "novella" length book. I've seen a few reviewers who are having the same problem as me so I hope Mrs. Cain listens to her readers
I really love all of Addison 's books. This book was really good so I will not give it a bad rating even though I'm highly disappointed that I paid 2.99 for a book that ends at 84%.This has happened before and also with other Authors, it makes me want to rethink purchasing the rest even though I want to find out what happens with Wren.
I'm not really sure at this point who makes my heart ache more.Wren, for everything she's lost, the atrocities she must witness and the pain she endures as she resolutely behaves the only way she can to protect the ones she loves.Kieran, because he wants to love her, but doesn't know how.Caspian, because he does love her, but won't even admit it to himself.Toby, well in my opinion, he's loud and proud about it, but he's just crazy and I think he's up to no good.Things are happening, things are changing, I see a bit of a power shift coming.I'm not usually one for cliffhangers, I will wait out an author until a story is complete, but I love Addison Cain's Omegaverse stories, so I'm following along. If you're like me though, you may want to wait, I confess that I'm slightly disappointed by the length of each release. I feel as though I'm just getting to the good part and it's over.
Now this is what I came for- sleep is wholly unnecessary when filthy imagination sustains the soul. Purchased the book, sat down, devoured it, sat amazed, and went to read books 1-3 all in the same night. This book went into further depth what had occurred when the female protagonist squared off with Caspain and his pack, the ramifications of everyone's actions, and future expectations. True to form, a wrench was thrown into the Alphas' carefully conspired plans, and what a wonderful ride it is. "Jax" will not be cowed. There's much enjoyment to be had from the little nuggets of insight peppered between the lines on the adjustment period. While there's inevitable yearning for the subsequent book offering, this was a satisfying read and addition to the series. It's been the highlight of my year thus far.
