These selected lectures by Eric Griffiths -- Cambridge's famous "Wreckless Eric" -- are brilliant, funny, urgent and unpompous. (This last trait is very helpful socially -- for instance, anybody who says they prefer Helen Vendler or Harold Bloom should sit at another table.) Enjoy!
I love literature and literary criticism and looked forward to reading a renowned teacher's perspective. When I saw that his lectures, memorialized in this book, were on topics such as "lists" and "timing" I wondered how he would invest those topics with literary interest, or any interest. Aside from the random clever comparison, as a writer he is not amusing or insightful. I am glad I never had to sit through the lectures and am returning the book.
