I'm a beginner to Spanish Learning and flash cards have always been the best method for me to reinforce knowledge. These flash cards are good for just that. They aren't miracle workers, just a great tool to use to increase your Spanish vocabulary. Small enough to fit into my purse or any bag. I use them during down times or when I find myself waiting in a line or at a doctor's office, which always leads to a conversation with a stranger about the struggles of learning a 2nd language. The cards are large enough to read without my glasses. :-). They are sturdy and made from the same type of stock paper as index cards. They are a great value for the price.

Since it's hard to tell what's actually included due to the limited sample pages, here's a list:1. Confusing words pairs2. False friends3. Idiomatic & other meaningful expressions (Subsections for expressions with: a, de, en, por, andar, dar, echar, estar, hacer, ir, perder, poner, quedar, ser, tomar, tener)4. For adding to your Spanish Vocabulary, this is a wonderful tool.Bought the entire series in Spanish by BarCharts to go along with the fun Fluenz Latin American Spanish Learning program (also recommend it).There are a number of them and all are great.They are all very good tools to use while learning or for quick 5 minute review sessions whilst anywhere.Rote learning along with conversational Spanish with native speakers is best.Plastic bonded is easy to keep clean.Durable for on the go travel.Love them for quick referencing when needed, especially while writing in Spanish language for guest blog posts not written in your native tongue.Highly recommend these learning tools.Like any tools, unused they become useless.Use them, you can become proficient in the language you wish to learn.Use it or lose it and the same is held true for languages.Please pardon the same review for all the BarCharts. They are all great.

These cars are for beginner level Spanish students. There are a few intermediate cards thrown in there. They're flimsy, but that is what I was expecting. I knew most of the vocabulary in this flashcard set, but they're still useful for helping me retain words.

Exactly as advertised, 1000 flash cards the size of business cards. Thickness is in the middle between a sheet of paper and a business card. I like it that thin as it keeps the price low. Very happy to get 1000 flash cards for under $20. Plus this is the only flash card I saw with 1000, the others seemed to have 100 or less for almost the same price. This one covers it all.

I like the cards and the way they are written but I wish they were printed on something a little more durable. These are very flimsy business card size cards.

Very helpful. I use this to teach mentally handicapped children Spanish. There were some cards missing, actually the months of the year. The sellers sent a new box of cards and let me keep the other one. This has been a very effective teaching tool.

This assortment of flash cards is very well organized by topic. I take out a selection of them and haul them around in my backpack or purse to use when I have a moment. Some items are less than useful in 2019 because times have changed. For example: no one uses travelers cheques anymore for obtaining travel money, so an update on financial items and perhaps more about tech would be useful , but for the cost, I am pleased.

I am an outdoor enthusiast and was looking for a quality field guide to help with the identification of lesser known tree species, primarily in the spring, summer and early fall months. I have a very good grasp on the basic species in my area but needed help with a few species that look VERY much alike, as well as trees that fall into the rarer category.As usual, I did as much research ahead of time as possible and ended up with three top choices. As I went through the reviews I found a reoccurring theme. The theme was that NO ONE FIELD GUIDE WILL MEET ALL YOUR NEEDS. Field guides are not textbooks and of necessity are not exhaustive because of size constraints. Each guide deals with this in its own fashion. Some are short on text and quality descriptions. Others are short on high quality pictures of leaf, bark, and general tree shape. Still others suffer from inadequate I.D. layout.After considering all the variables, the three that ended up on the top of the list were: National Audubon Society Field Guide to North American trees (Eastern Region) (NAS), Peterson Field Guide to Eastern Trees (PFG) and National Wildlife Federation Field Guide to Trees of North America (NWF). I live in Indiana so all three fit my location. On the upside, of the three guides the PFG has the best, most complete descriptions about the leaf, bark, fruit, ect. It is also has a pretty compact size. Of the three books mentioned it falls in the middle in size. It has a very easy to understand tree I.D. structure. I believe its weakness lies in its poor graphics and pictures. While I would recommend this book as a PRIMARY identification guide because of its thorough handling of the information, I would also recommend purchasing something to help with the visual end of the identification process. I can't say that I am disappointed with it because I purposely purchased it with the intent that I would need other book(s)with better graphics and pictures.Out of the three books I purchased above I found the NWF to be the most useful and complete guide. I believe (IMHO) that it has the best combination and balance of all the areas I mentioned above. It is however the largest of the three and is not a POCKET field guide by any stretch of the imagination. It is even a little heavy for my taste to take on an extended hike in a backpack.If the PFG had better graphics and pictures I would have rated it at the top. It is an excellent resource, but I just could not get past the poor graphics and lack of realistic pictures that the other two books provide.

I have this, and the Eastern Trees of the Audubon Society Field Guides. I recently purchased them both. I much prefer the pictures in the Audubon society book, but this one is organized in a much easier way for making identifications.I recommend them both, but this would be my first choice between the two.I think I'll get Sibley's next.

This is a very well written and organized field manual. However, even with this book, it takes a lot of practice to be able to positively identify trees. While the book does a fair job of describing things like bud scales, I still have found it difficult to identify the differences, thus limiting my ability to identify the tree, particularly in younger trees. Perhaps some hands on mentoring is what is needed to build a better foundation, then this book would be much more helpful.

What qualifies my review:-I have had this product for over a week/-I have used this product in and out each day since, (because I have a lot of free time on my hands).-I have identified more than 30-40 trees with this book (I live close to a forest).Bottom Line:BUY IT. But only If you want to identify trees on your own. Be weary that there is a learning curve with the book. The book is setuplike a process and it teaches you how to use the book itself, which is really nice, but you can't just open to a page and look forthe tree you'd like to identify. If you'd like, you can look up videos on "YouTube.com" for a simpler version of how to use the bookto proper identify trees. Otherwise, its a great book and I enjoy it great. Happy Identifying!My Review:---The Good News---First off, This Field guide is great. Even though it was published in the 1980's-1990's, the content STILL does a wonderful job at helping you identify trees various trees. No wonder they haven't made a updated new one, because this guide is pretty much at the top of the list of "Identifying Eastern Trees." Why is it the top?This guide provides great colored images, good charts that are understandable, scientific names for the tress, separate pages for each and every individual tree, glossary, index, you name it probably has it.---The Bad News---There are only two or three things I could really complain about for this product.1.) The size. It's not very big, which can be a plus, but it's a little smaller than I'd like it, personally. It's back-pocket sized2.) The learning curve that comes with the book. You really have to read and re-read to learn how the book is structured, alongwith what you, the identifier, needs to look for in a tree.3.) It's NOT weatherproof. If you plain on identifying trees, make sure its a nice sunny day and not snowing, sprinkling, raining, or has just rained. I went out with this product after it rained and some of the drops from the tress landed on the pages and they really soaks in the water. So just be careful. It's not a huge deal, but it would be a lot better if it was somewhat waterproof.---Bottom Line---BUY IT. But only If you want to identify trees on your own. Be weary that there is a learning curve with the book. I am giving this 5 stars, BUT. I sent it back because I ordered EASTERN GUIDE like it says, but received the WESTERN GUIDE. I don't need the Western, I need Eastern.However, the Western guide looked great and like it would be exactly what I wanted if I lived in the West US. Ordering again soon in hope that I get the correct guide.EDIT- Ordered twice. Received Western Guide again. Maybe three times will be a charm?

It's informative but the lay out makes it hard to actually ID trees in the field. I would rather have actual photos and not drawn pictures.

Best use for this book is as a weekend crash-course in markets & investing tools for people who know next to nothing. He does a good job of explaining the more modern developments in investing like ETFs and Index funds, but beyond this, you really need to do more research into the specific investment tools. There is a segment on robo-advisors as well, but again you'll need to use this as a basic intro then do further research. I recommend novices to read the book, but borrow it from a library or from somebody else.

Note: I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. Thank you, ClydeBank Media!Oh, boy. This was a good book overall, but I definitely have some Opinions on it.First, the good.1. This is truly an absolute beginner's guide to investing. When many books say that they're a beginning guide to fill-in-the-blank topic, a lot of times they're only sort of right in that they expect you to know some definitions and some basic idea of the topic already. Not so with this book. Probably the book's greatest strength is that it starts from the very beginning. In that vein...2-3. I loved how the first few chapters had really great fundamentals of investing, including really great definitions and little story problem math examples on how the various items worked.3. The chapter on various financial statement analysis metrics was another very good introduction to the topic.4. He had a really good emphasis on not freaking out when your investments are down and selling off based on feelings. Buy low, sell high is a fundamental that you cannot go wrong on. It's just figuring out the highs and lows that can get ya, as is the way that "traditional" investing works.And the weaknesses. For the sake of full disclosure, many of these items I consider to be weaknesses because I do not agree with the author's strategy of investing. I'll explain as I go.1. Throughout the book, I felt really confused as to whom this book was meant for. The beginning chapters had all the great definitions and story problems. There was another chapter where he talked about how he as a financial advisor wasn't snobby enough not to want to advise middle class people (vs those advisors that only accept people with over a certain threshold to invest). Those things made me think that this was for the Average Joan like me who wants to save for retirement. But then, there was this whole long chapter on derivatives, futures, options, etc. His warning about how risky these instruments are was not as fear-inspiring as I felt it should have been had this truly been a book for the Average Joan like me. Which also leads into...2. YOU CANNOT HAVE A DISCUSSION ABOUT ROTH IRAS WITHOUT DISCUSSING NOW VS FUTURE TAX RATES. I'M SORRY, BUT YOU CANNOT. Seriously. The author does not misstate the benefits of Roth IRAs in that their growth is not taxable, but you also have to take into account that if you're waiting until retirement to pull from the Roth, you will PROBABLY have a lower tax rate by then (in which case you should think about putting the bulk of what you can into traditional IRA so that you pay less money in taxes OVERALL IN YOUR LIFETIME.3. Here's where we get into critiques because I do not agree with the author's overall strategy. The author believes that "The mark of an excellent investor is to consistently outperform the market." Over time, the total stock market average growth is 8%. Why shouldn't I just come up with a good asset allocation and just invest my money in a total stock market index fund?? As the Average Joan investor, I don't have time to perform fundamental analysis for every stock I pick, and I am certainly not going to have any sort of information that gives me any insight that people who actually do this for a living will have. The author briefly mentions indexes, but he doesn't present a compelling case either for or against them. Which brings us to....4. Fees. There is a short discussion of mutual funds/index funds, but there is NOT ENOUGH EMPHASIS on how actively traded funds include all sorts of micro fees and commissions and everything that absolutely DEVASTATE your investment growth over time. However, he did not emphasize enough that they need to be EXPLICIT about whether they are legally required to act as your fiduciary or not. If they're not your fiduciary, there is no incentive for them not to push you into riskier investments where they might have a commission you don't know about. I do concede his point that advisors potentially help keep a client from selling off in times of panic, but you have to have the right advisor.6. There is a cursory chapter on FIRE at the end of the book. Which is fine, but....due to his own interests of being a financial advisor (and therefore wanting your business to come to his company) there is no discussion on the actual fundamentals about how most FIRE people go about it. There's no discussion of the benefits of index funds and no discussion on safe withdrawal rates (which I consider to be two of the most fundamental parts of most FIRE plans).So there you have it. As a "traditional" investment book (i.e. pick your specific stocks, use an advisor, etc.) this is a good book. But when there's so much data out there on how likely it is that you will consistently beat the market with your individual investments (view spoiler) I'm just not convinced that my total stock market index fund will be any worse than the alternative. In the words of John Bogle in The Little Book of Common Sense Investing, â€œDon't look for the needle in the haystack. Just buy the haystack!â€

This is a fantastic book for someone looking to start investing. It does a great job of not just explaining how everything works, but teaching the reader how to go about trading. One point that I really like about this book is that it is not a sales pitch. A lot of investment books today have an underlying sales pitch to purchase an authors program. Not this book. It instead gives a broad overview of the market while touching on a few key strategies that have a proven track record.

This book is extremely well-written and avoids most of the common mistakes investing books make. It describes each topic well and concisely -- without burdening you with too much detail on each topic.The author highlights some of the most important aspects of investing such as living below your means, asset allocation, and avoiding common behavioral investing mistakes.I would recommend this book to any new investor looking to get a high-level overview of investing concepts.

The link said that he went through years of depression after returning from Vietnam, and after reading the book the only surprise would be if he hadn't. He reported for Esquire during the most intense year of the war, from late 1967 through the Tet Offensive. His level of sensitivity and perception must have heightened an experience that would have been brutal for anyone, but we the readers reap the rewards. This isn't history, it's a 262 page stream of consciousness prose poem from an artist who uses words as his medium. If you have any sense of the era it will snap you back in time; you'll feel the feral heat and humidity in the middle of winter, and hear rotor blades on a silent afternoon. Like his contemporaries the Beatles, Michael Herr lived to 76 knowing his legacy was set in stone by his early 30s; I hope he could accept that, because it's an extraordinary legacy, indeed. He assisted Coppola with Apocalypse Now and Kubrick with Full Metal Jacket; fans of those movies should read Dispatches to get the unvarnished source material, more in feel than in actual events.I first read Dispatches in the late 70s and I've gone through several copies and 8 or 10 readings in the intervening years. I finally got a clue and bought the book on Kindle today so I don't have to go looking for it or buy yet another copy when I feel the urge to read this prose that can still give me chills almost four decades after I first found it.Rest in Peace, Michael, and thank you.

After reading "Sand in the Wind" "Fields of Fire" and 20 other books and being a Marine Corps Grunt I thought I knew Vietnam...Until I went there in 2013. I travelled the length of the country, went to Hue, Da'Nang, the Khe Sanh and many of the places written about in this book. A collection of hundreds of short stories, "dispatches" sent to news organizations or observations of Michael Herr's time in Nam.' After visiting, reading more I understand it...but I still shake my head at the Washington policy makers, The military/Industrial Complex that sent us there...anyone with a tiny bit of history and looked at the terrain knew this war was not winnable-unless the USA invaded the north and killed people wholesale. This book goes a long way into seeing and understanding what was really going on.

Herr was in Vietnam as an Esquire correspondent for two years, a period that included the Tet offensive in 1968. He notes that almost 700 such writers were accredited to the Military Assistance Command, Vietnam (MACV) during Tet. The â€œgruntsâ€ tolerated correspondents on an individual basis but when they showed up in a grouping of five or six, for example, the troops got pretty nervous and worried that something bad was about to happen. The usual question he got was, â€What the hell are you doing here, man?â€ Herrâ€™s stoic reaction â€” he had a job to do, just like them. Herr writes movingly about the siege of Khe Sanh and the combat at Hue, how it changed the men who survived the seemingly endless days and nights trying to stay alive with little sleep. Occasionally he reports examples of Marinesâ€™ dark humor. The joke went, â€œYou load all the Friendlies onto ships and take them out to the South China Sea. Then you bomb the country flat and then you sink all the ships.â€ The enemy wasnâ€™t always the Viet Cong (VC). One afternoon at Khe Sanh a Marine opened the door of a latrine and was killed by a grenade that had been rigged on the door. Something like that happened in my outfit when an unexploded grenade was discovered in the executive officerâ€™s jeep gas tank. Another facet of the war was its cruelty and thirst for revenge. A Belgian told of an American who loaded up twenty-some VC dead bodies in a helicopter sling and dropped them in the center of a hostile village. â€œAh, psywar,â€ said the Belgian, kissing his fingertips. Herr was skeptical of pronouncements by the colonels and generals who claimed that things were getting better, weâ€™re turning the corner, and other optimistic propaganda. Perhaps the truest view was that of a battalion S-2 (intelligence officer) who once covered his papers with a sheet where he had written â€” What does it all mean? Herrâ€™s book was published several years after his return to The World. He doesnâ€™t offer any conclusions about the war and pretty much leaves it up to the reader. But looking back almost fifty years with 20/20 vision one has to wonder if it was worth the 58,315 Americans killed in action.

I bought this for my ESL students, to help teach a unit on civil rights. The kids can totally connect to this book and put themselves in the characters shoes. It is such an emotional story, the author really shows how brave these children were. The art is fantastic and helps show the emotion and drama behind the text.

After the death of my most important loved one, I contemplated life and living without him in it...It was a dark path down a frightening road; not even a flicker of light met me on the road ahead. A friend lent me this book and I read it cover to cover in one sitting...and, amazingly I realized that someone understood me and my pain. I bought myself a copy and dragged it with me everywhere I went-it was for me as my blanky had been as a child. I read it over and over until it fell apart. I have since bought at least 6 more copies of this book, intending to keep them. And yet, somehow, I always found myself giving it away to someone I cared about. The day I bought my Kindle Fire, I downloaded it and still always have it with me...and I am not giving this copy away. :) I do however, still find myself buying this book for friends... I now read it when I am feeling content, scared, happy, or sad-it seems to speak to me regardless of my mood. When I say this book saved my life- I mean it. Surviving a loved one's suicide is the most intense grief I have ever, and will ever, experience - but this book kept my pain at bay and my loved ones from experiencing the pain of my not possibly being here. Whenever I felt the darkness creeping in, and the hope disappearing, I reached for this book and in all senses of the word-THIS BOOK SAVED MY LIFE AND TAUGHT ME HOW TO LIVE in a brighter, happier, and purposeful life!

I saw this book, bought it, and read it slowly. It is so diversely simple that I had to take my time to process the slogans and meanings. I really enjoyed the stories and getting to know myself while injesting the lessons about being compassionate and being human.

I was recently introduced to this author through her "Compassion Cards" series and decided to buy this on a whim - I'm so glad I did! The concept of taking everything you're going through (good, bad, and neutral) and using it to your benefit is inspiring, and I look forward to putting this into practice in my life.

This book seriously made an impact on me. Pema ChÃ¶drÃ¶n's writing is clear, creative and beautiful. I feel myself slipping into a different headspace when I read this book. It may be a coincidence - but I bought this book and read it twice in February: the following months since then have been some of the most transformative of my life thus far.

Being able to Start Where You Are was an empowering notion. It was the idea that I don't need to wait till I (grow up, finish school, lose weight, get married, get divorced, get a job, retire) to (develop spiritually, be happy, find peace). Most particularly I don't need to stop suffering to be happy, or start my journey. Instead, I can use my suffering to facilitate my development & growth. The CD version is true to all of these ideas.

I bought this guide prior to a trip to the Outer Banks and, after looking through it for about an hour, decided it wasn't even worth packing for the trip. For the most part, the book doesn't provide "insider" information about attractions, accommodations, restaurants, excursions, etc. in the Outer Banks. Rather, the book just lists the providers of these services along with brief explanations that sound as if they were written by the providers themselves. Honestly, this book is less useful than the free advertisements that you can pick up outside any grocery store in the Outer Banks, because at least the advertisements are up to date and they also include coupons.When I buy a guidebook, I want it to tell me what differentiates the 10 different Italian restaurants, 5 different wild horse tours, or 15 different vacation home rental companies in town or at least recommend 2 or 3 good ones. Unfortunately, all I really got from Insiders' Guide to North Carolina's Outer Banks was a ringing endorsement of nearly every establishment the book mentions. The last guidebook I bought for a vacation was The Ultimate Kauai Guidebook: Kauai Revealed and it blew this Outer Banks guidebook away.I do not recommend this book.

Gave me insight to where we were going and about the history of the region. Has a lot of info but jumps around somewhat. Decent guide for vacation.

I have the 27th edition and figured I needed to update to the 30th. This will be our 3rd year renting a house in the outer banks and this has everything right at your fingertips. Great book to take along too because we didn't have great internet reception last year and it is so much easier to look in here.

I just got back from the Outer Banks and found this book extremely helpful during my vacation there. It gives you many points of interest and activities that you may not have discovered without it. Certainly worth it.
