Douglas Winter's "Faces of Fear" presents 15 in-depth interviews with top horror writers of the late '70s and early '80s -- Stephen King, Peter Straub, Clive Barker, Robert Bloch, Richard Matheson, Ramsey Campbell, etc. Though the interviews were done in 1985, there's a lot of biographical detail included, and Winter paints a clear picture of the writers' feelings about the genre, hopes for their work, and plans for the future. Even the Stephen King interview presents new details and insights. Worth a look for fans of the spooky stuff.
Great collection of interviews. A lot has changed in the world of horror fiction and many of the authors in this book have slowed their output considerably. This was written in the heyday of horror and there are some fantastic insights into the craft of writing in the genre. The stand out interviews are, Robert Bloch, Clive Barker, Peter Straub, Richard Matheson and Steven King. We even get a V.C. Andrews interview which is very interesting. I don't think I'd ever read an interview with her outisde an old issue of Twilight Zone Magazine. Great little book.
Good book. Love the interviews with the royalty of horror.
