The book is better than the cover. Waaay better. The cover screams I-self-publish-and-I-let-my-grandmother-do-the-copy editing. This is (probably) not the case. This book is surprisingly well written. The PTSD of the protagonist is dealt with respectfully, not merely as a several chapter problem between the protagonists. And Amanda Milo doesn't pull her punches. Yes, structurally it could probably use the help of a tenured editor. But many, many self published books aren't coherent enough to even reach that point. Rescued By an Alien is worth a read. I bought it, not just KU'ed it, and I have no regrets. My kindle has two collections specifically dedicated to wtf and meh books. Rescued By an Alien will not be making it onto either of those lists.

Mild spoiler alerts in this review.I actually liked the "book" cover although I would have thought the aliens on the covers of book 1 and 2 would have looked a bit more similar as they were brothers - but not a big deal. I like the fact that the aliens in this series actually "look" like aliens. There seemed to be a connection that developed between the protagonists (not insta-love but it was quick) that was centered around dream sharing but no real explanation or theory how book 2's hero and heroine have shared dreams of their lives since birth. The duel points of view were ok. Unfortunately because of the way the story was typeset it was very hard to remember who's "chapter" I was reading. It was like there were no paragraphs- just sentences double spaced. Consequently I found myself paging back to see who was talking.Plot was slow, drawn out, long and repetitive in spots. I wanted to skip parts to get to the end because it was "taking too long"!I thought that the character definition and development was a lot better than book 1Environmental descriptions/ world building could have been better by being a bit more detailed. By now the reader knows that these characters are basically prisoners in a monitored environment. Each couple gets an 'apartment' [a bedroom & bathroom only] that typically has cameras in the rooms (except Zadeon wouldn't allow cameras in their room because they upset his mate - hmm - if it were that easy to get rid of the cameras in the bedroom/apartment why doesn't everyone 'put their foot down' and have them removed). Then there's a training room and a common eating room. That's about it for the environment in this story. I'm actually not even sure why there's a common eating area when apparently all they get to eat is protein goo out of a tube. Oh! Almost forgot! There is an outside environment too! The reader was told that beans were planted outside. But no description.I was disappointed about the author's decision for the heroine to become pregnant from rape. Zadeon (hero) was such a great person that I found myself feeling sorry that the baby wasn't his. The description of emotional turmoil that the heroine was having throughout the entire storyline seemed accurate.Although I've already purchased book 3, I'm finding it difficult to 'want' to read it. Normally I can't wait to jump into the next book in a series but unfortunately I'm sort of bored with this series.

I was expecting so much more than this pychological examination of a gang rape victim. I get the heroine was traumatized but to write a so-called romance story revolving around it was a bit much. There was no description of the heroine, or any of the women, no description of the world they were in I just thought it just wasn't as enjoyable as the first novel. The hero deserved more than a woman who saw him as a monster until the last few chapters and than had to go through another round of sobbing heartache of birthing the rapist child. When I read its for enjoyment not to deal with social or psychological woes.

I was hoping this would be the same caliber book as the first one in the series. While its well-written & has a lot of the qualities I enjoy in a paranormal romance, in the end the story's entire focus was the healing of a gang-rape victim set in a alien world. What I liked - well-written - the story flowed smoothly and logically; dialogue made sense & was a pleasure to read. There were several unexpected chuckles and smiles at some of the humorous points. The sad moments felt sad & not stupid or childish - I was mentally there with the H or h. The perception of the 'alien qualities of H to the h & back again were well described, realistic & interesting. the sex scenes were varied and good. I enjoy snarky comments if they're not demeaning & the book had those strong sometimes snarky females. I was glad to see the healing process wasn't a rush job - it followed a practical process as did the relationship between the H&h.What I didn't like - I missed the breadth of the world scenarios the first book had - the different places & people they encountered. I missed action scenes. I thought the forced imprisonment was too nominal an issue; the environment boring, the interactions between the H&h became redundant- despite the progression of their relationship. I'm also a reader who likes to escape from life's cruelness. A story who's entire focus is the aftermath of a horrific gang rape is not pleasure reading for me.The fact I enjoyed the book enough to read the whole thing speaks to the quality of the writing but if the rest of the series is going to be like this one - I will not be one of the readers.
