My son is barely 2 years old and has speech delays. He can't even say 'mom' yet. That led me to order any sort of learning tools I could think of to help him before starting speech therapy.I've had these a month or so now and feel like I've had a good amount of time using them to give a solid review. I'm going to give it 5 stars, and here's why:1. Packaging is thick, sturdy and has a Velcro closure2. The price is fantastic for what you receive3. The bright colors and fun textures on the cards strike interest kids of all ages4. On the back of each card are questions to ask the child once simply naming the animal on the picture is too easy5. The cards themselves are very thick, rigid and can withstand a good beating.I do daycare (and other children come to play) and have kids ages 6 months to 10 years spend lots of times using the cards. The older kids made games out of them including a weird version of 'go fish'. I've had a baby munch on the corner of a couple cards and they didn't get all soggy and tear because they're so thick. My rambunctious 2 year old hasn't managed to bend any of the cards yet, while our 'Baby Einstein discovery cards' are mostly bent so badly that you cannot see some of the pictures.My son now name 3 of the animals, can make the noises that most of them make, and can find a specific animal in the stack if I name one. That is amazing progress! The day after getting these cards, i ordered the 'first words' set by the same company, and while they are good, we definitely prefer the animals.

I decided to combine both reviews into one because-for whatever reason- it's not letting me post 2 separate reviews. To get all 34 cards, you must purchase the 2 different sets---------------------This review is of the DK My First Touch & Feel Animal Picture Cards (AN)I bought this card set for my non verbal 3 year old son. He currently is enrolled in the Early Childhood Special Education program. I'm constantly looking for activities that will grab his interest as well as assist him in the various areas he struggles in. WOW instant hit with my 15 month old. Immediately purchased 2 other versions. The cards are nice and sturdy, the colors are bright, and each card has a spot with a different texture or material for your toddler to feel (for example the jelly has a spot that's sticky, the corn has grooves and ridges). I love that on the back of each card they have ideas for the adult on how to help your child learn with the cards from suggestions of questions to ask when they are first starting out, working all the way to expanding on spelling related games as they get older, and even going as far as to include translations in Spanish, French, German, and Mandarin if you really want to be that over achiever. I love this because not only does this keep the cards relevant and engaging for your child as they get older, but it gives people with maybe less experience playing with younger children great ideas on how to use these cards. The cards fit nicely in their cardboard enclosure that is secured shut with Velcro, so they are easy to put away or take with you on trips. My only complaint would be that since this is the "First Words" version, I wish one or two of the items which are maybe not as common were replaced with items that would be more in line with actual toddlers first words...and really this is more nit picking than a complaint.

Meh, my expectations for this product were too high. First words include â€œsweaterâ€. â€œDog, cat, baby,â€ are ok but â€œsweater and mirrorâ€ just donâ€™t seem like easy first words to include in the cards. Also, there are just 16 cards so those longer words just donâ€™t seem to fit in the bunch. Not worth buying.

These cards are WONDERFUL!! My son is now 4 and has autism and has not yet said a single word, but we have 4 different packs of these cards that he just loves and we use to teach him words. Even though he doesn't speak, we know he knows what things are because we can ask him to find a card of whatever it is and he'll pull it out and show us. We've owned these since he was diagnosed at 18 months and most of them have held up really really well! He also has sensory issues and loves how some of them are textured. For those of you who are church goers, these cards are something great to take to church because they come in a great velcro box and they're QUIET! Very pleased with these cards! Highly recommend!

Another thing to get out these is this disclaimer: The very existence of this story is a "spoiler" for the series, so if you still have the "What He Doesn't Know" books by Kandi Steiner on your TBR then read no further.I knew this book was coming and somehow it slipped my mind how very intense Reese Walker is and I never contemplated that heâ€™d be where he is when this story opens, two years after the end of his affair with Charlie. This is both good and bad. When the "duet" ended, everything felt tied up for me. Except for Reese. Sure Charlie's story was solidified, her choice made, but Reese was still out there. This ghost of a man, and the air was thick with his heartbreak. Kandi, well Kandi pushes that feeling out through her words, making this a somewhat difficult book to read. If you've read the series and you thought Reese felt broken before, well watch out.Two years after Charlie proclaims her choice, Reese is STILL getting over it. But there's nothing in him that resembles a man who is at all healed, not one bit. Going through the motions of life and forced to witness the love he once considered he'd have. He never had all of it, but he could taste victory. Fool that he was. A broken hearted artists equals an inspired artists.â€œReese was an entire universe, and the piano was a mere telescope we tried to see him through.â€Heâ€™s good at faking it, but only just enough. He is STUCK. Just STUCK. Frustratingly so. Wake, work, rinse and repeat. It's as though he is punishing himself for loving a woman he should have left alone. As a passionate man, he couldn't. Miserable by his own making.Then into his life comes a young woman, a seemingly too young for him woman who is broken in her own right. So very broken. What happened to her is just gut wrenching and hard to read. But itâ€™s necessary to understand her and the next chapter of her life. The chapter where she will heal and become who sheâ€™s destined to be, and Reese will become a big part of that.As the two begin interacting and sharing their stories of hurt and loss, they form a bond, trusting each other to keep them safe. We needed Reese to move on and for Sarah to take a stand for herself. Considering what she went through, it would be a very big leap for her to take the necessary steps. Is this relatively tight nit community, assumptions are made, right or wrong, and judgement is placed. I guess itâ€™s not enough that Reese tortures himself, but people love to interfere and in some the motivation is clear and in others, not so much. Iâ€™ll just say some people need to learn to let go. Yeah, Charlie takes some missteps but Reese owns taking a stand. Sarah and Reese are incredible characters who grow leaps and bounds and it all culminates in something that is magical. Two people who release the past and learn to love - for what seems to me is really the very first time.I guess I needed to write the review because my heart was weighed down by recalling Reeseâ€™s emotions. I feel lighter and more hopeful. If you've ever read anything by Kandi Steiner you know this is her MO - make her readers FEEL.IT.ALL.I think Reeses words say it allâ€¦â€œWeâ€™re not destined to run from our misery, weâ€™re destined to bathe in it â€” and to somehow find a way to make it beautiful.â€

I have spent the last year devouring anything and everything I could get my hands written by Kandi Steiner. Itâ€™s unacceptable (in my opinion) that I missed out on the books Kandi released prior to the What He Doesnâ€™t Know duet caught my eyeâ€”and miss out I did! It truly pains me that I canâ€™t just drop everything and read her work. Kandi has impressed me again and again as I have read the books in her backstock. If you donâ€™t follow my blog already, I am a voracious reader, and my taste is extremely eclectic. If I pick up a romance, I want a strong hero and heroine, sexxxy times that scorch my kindle, and a killer storyline. So far, I feel that everything I have read from this particular author meets those standards as well as giving readers a wide range of subgenres to choose from. Now, itâ€™s ironic that the first books I read from Kandi was a triangle romance, because in all honestly, I dislike triangle romances immensely. LOL. And yet, I LOVED the What He Doesnâ€™t Know Duet. Originally, I was drawn to the blurbs. But it took literally moments to get sucked into the first book in this duet last year when I read them. In preparation for reading What He Never Knew, I reread the duet so that I was on top of my game, and honestly, I think I loved it even more the second time around. Since Iâ€™m such an angst junkie, Iâ€™m addicted to Kandi Steinerâ€™s writing, as she has a way of torqueing your emotions just enough that itâ€™s delicious and not painful. Now that Iâ€™ve discovered her, I have a new go-to author and I am sure you will love her just as muchAs much as I loved the duet, when I finished reading it, I struggled with the ending. With the lack of a happily ever after for my pick of the men Charlie Pierce was stuck betweenâ€¦ the fictional hero that didnâ€™t get the girl... that Kandi Steiner made me fall completely in-love with over the course of the duet. I havenâ€™t been able to stop thinking of him until one day I found out that Kandi had written his HEAâ€”talk about bliss! I was in heaven knowing this book was coming, and I am not ashamed to say that I stalked Kandiâ€™s social media accounts until the blogger sign ups were available. As anyone who read and loved the What He Doesnâ€™t Know duet would attest, readers were in for an emotional ride from the first page until the last. So I expected to be as emotional when I read What He Never Knew. I just wasnâ€™t prepared for how emotional the read would be. In order to avoid spoiling the ending of What He Always Knewâ€”the second book of the seriesâ€”I am avoiding the use of the heroâ€™s name in this review. Please forgive any vague references as I simply wanted to insure your reading isnâ€™t tainted.What He Never Knew is a taboo student/teacher romance with a much younger heroine. I canâ€™t praise this book enough. Can I magically give it more than 5 stars?! The storyline itself was phenomenal with a very steady pace that will suck you straight in. The connection between the protagonists was utterly beautiful and made my heart sing to see them both happy at the conclusion of this book. I feel like the story has now come full circle where it wasnâ€™t really complete for me at the end of What He Doesnâ€™t Know/What He Always Knew. Technically you can read What He Never Knew without first reading the (What He Doesnâ€™t Know) duet. That said, I truly believe the three books should be read in sequence to enhance your reading experience. Youâ€™ll get lost in them regardless but will understand the hero on a completely different level. You will fall in love with Sarah and hurt with her the way I hurt. This is a very informative book on a little-known disease.( Buy one for your neurologist if you can.) My brother died of this terrible disease in Jan.2016. He had many of the symptoms described in this book;and also had a great deal of trouble getting a diagnosis. Doctors need to know about the tau protein in the brain. There is no cure and more research is desperately needed.

I purchased this book when my Dad was diagnosed with PSP. This book helped us so much in planning. One of the most practical ones I read--like a handbook full of helpful tips. There's not many resources out there on this illness. This book was one of the best resources for us personally.

Devoured the whole book over the weekend, and it was wonderful. I live under a rock and wasnâ€™t real familiar with Franchesca Ramsey's work (though as I read, I realized I had seen and loved some of her videos when I'd come across them over the years). She's become a favorite after this book.While I haven't experienced sudden YouTube celebrity status, it was interesting and easy to imagine her experience, suddenly having an audience of people looking to her to say something and not always getting it right and then facing various types of online shitstorms. Many of us have dealt with a much smaller version of that if we've been willing to have real and not easy conversations about racism and other issues.It was so refreshing to hear her very honest and real experiences and kind of nod along at descriptions of interactions on social media and also hear solid advice of how to engage (or not engage at that time and place, maybe take it private - something I've found helpful to do but rarely see talked about as much, so it was nice to see). There's even a handy flowchart of when to unfriend someone who has said something racist or otherwise not cool - it's not always so cut and dry (relationship, situation, various factors). I appreciated the amount of realistic nuance the author included on topics like this along with the reminder to keep the focus on the issues being discussed and not to devolve into less helpful name-calling, attacking appearance, etc.This was such an enjoyable read because the author has such a great sense of humor and willingness to share her own missteps and explain concepts in such a detailed and accessible way.If you are involved at all in social justice conversations in real life or online or just want to know some good places to start learning more (especially the concepts explained in the back), this book is an excellent resource.

I may be a little biased because I've followed Franchesca for years but I absolutely loved this book. She's one of the hardest working people in the biz so I'm so happy for her to be writing a book!This book is so wonderfully introspective and I don't think most people in the public eye are as analytical as she is. As someone who has followed her, I hadn't quite realized that she made these transitions but reflecting back, I realize that they have been distinct stages in her public image.I love all the teaching moments in the book too, especially about calling in vs calling out. I definitely do the latter and will be practicing doing more of the former. It's stuff like this that is why I read books. It's completely changed my perspective on the goal of public discussion on race or LGBT issues.If you like the dissection of social justice issues and how to effect change, I highly recommend this book.

I discovered Franchesca a few years ago from some of her videos that came right after "S*** White Girls Say to Black Girls". She's super inspiring for her willingness to be vulnerable about her career path and her mistakes, and that says a lot for a girl who's part of an online media movement that already trends towards oversharing. That vulnerability is the biggest strength of Franchesca's writing. Not every joke written on these pages lands, but the sincerity and wisdom absolutely do.Between her encounters with viral stardom and some surprisingly cringe-worthy confrontations with problematic celebrities, there are lots of great suggestions about addressing social issues within your family and friend groups, a breakdown of the dark origins of innocent words and a handy glossary that add up to a memoir that doubles as a social justice on the web 101 course. Super enjoyable memoir. Franchesca doesn't shy away from any of the mistakes (or good steps!) she's taken along her personal path towards social activism. Her writing style is snappy and at times funny (when appropriate). I really enjoyed her look into the Internet's roll in both sending her to #fame and then to being #trolled (and being A Hater for a while) and how all of that rolls into learning from mistakes to be a better activist. It wasn't just a fun and interesting biography; it was a really nice call to action. Highly recommend.

The book is filled with great quotes that explain this identity: â€œIâ€™d walk into the counselorâ€™s office for whatever reason and looks of distain greeted meâ€”one meant for a criminalâ€¦It was harder to defy this expectation than just accept itâ€¦It was a jacket I could try to take off, but they kept putting it back onâ€¦So why not be proud? Why not be an outlaw? Why not make it our own?â€Though the book exposes a lot of ugliness, one of the major themes Rodriguez explores is his pride in Chicano heritage, and how this pride eventually inspired him to give up the gang lifestyle. When heâ€™s able to explore his identity in more positive ways, such as through joining Chicano pride groups, painting murals, and writing about his experiences, Rodriguez slowly starts to leave the gang lifestyle behind, and in doing so, he begins to see through its shallowness and pointlessness. Though it may give kids protection and a feeling of pride, he shows how those doing the â€œprotectingâ€ may be the very people who you need protection from when you question their lifestyle and how silly their pride is when it comes at the expense of selling your own soul. Luckily for Rodriguez, he was able to escape this lifestyle, which is not something many of his friends could say. Death is always around every corner, and every turn of the page, and so few kids like Rodriguez are able to live long enough to see through this lifestyle and develop into productive members of society.One of the most valuable parts of this book is its socio-political message about the horrible affects the oppression of minorities has on a society, and this message is as current and poignant today as it was when the book was written. Rodriguez explains how systemic racism was used throughout the history of LA to keep certain minority groups poor, disenfranchised, and controlled by their oppressors, and how this not only hurts the minority groups, but also hurts the oppressors. Society creates gangs then lives in fear of being attacked by them and police brutality results. Itâ€™s impossible today to turn on the news and avoid stories of policemen and women harassing, intimidating, assaulting, and sometimes, killing, specific demographics of US citizens for no other reason than their skin color, religious affiliation, national originsâ€¦ This books is filled with so many examples of horrific crimes committed by police officers that it's hard not to be outraged. Granted, most of these crimes were committed against gang members, but these gang members were mostly misguided kids, and the cops, who are adults whoâ€™ve sworn to protect and defend US citizens, oftentimes cause more violence and crime than the gang members. Again, Rodriguez has a lot of great quotes to explain this: â€œIn the barrio, the police are just another gangâ€¦Shootings, assaults and skirmishes between the barrios are direct results of police activity. Even drug dealing. I know this. Everybody knows this.â€ Quotes like this show why the Black Lives Matter movement is so important, and how it didnâ€™t just emerge out of some bubbleâ€”the problem has always been here, and the more that people read books like Always Running, the better chances we have as a society to address it.Part poetic personal story, part engaging historical lesson, part inspiration tale of redemption, part exultation of Chicano heritage, part poignant work of socio-political activism, Always Running is a multifaceted book dripping with live-in human experience and emotion, and I highly recommend it to everyone who cares about improving the world they live in.

I decided to use this novel in my 10th grade ELA classes this year. I teach in a low-income, urban community, that is plagued by constant gang violence and drug abuse. Despite this, my students remain resilient and eager to change the narrative that surrounds their community. Luis' story is raw and inspiring. As it chronicles his life from a child to a young-adult, my students have been able to understand how Luis ends up on the path he heads down and also how he is able to remove himself from that path. It has been truly amazing to see my students' reactions to reading this story.I am very eager to have Luis visit our school and speak with my students. Unfortunately, my school cannot afford the agent's fee, so if anyone knows of any way please let me know!

This book was much less riveting than I thought it would be. Having said that, I do think it's an important book that our youth should be exposed to IN SCHOOL and AT HOME, because it seems to portray the very high price - in many cases, the ultimate price - that kids pay when they engage in gang activities. I totally fail to see why this book was banned from schools. Are they denying the reality of what kids these days are actually living? These kids need facts and information, and this first-hand account from the front lines of gangs in L.A. provides exactly that, and minces no words in doing it. Maybe that's why all the politcally-correct school boards, teachers, principals, or whoever banned this book from various schools, including one right here in my home state of Michigan, in Kalamazoo. Ridiculous. Sticking your head in the sand and pretending this kind of stuff doesn't exist DOES NOT HELP THE KIDS, OR THEIR PARENTS, it just makes the ignorance about how dangerous gangs are grow and fester, to the detriment of, once again, the kids. So, while this book was not the "riveting read" that I expected, it was extremely educational (even for me, and I'm in my 60's) and I would say it should be taught as a course in high school. The more kids know, the better they can defend themselves against the seductive lure of the gangs. And one thing reading this book as a family WILL do is, it will start a dialogue between parents and their children, a dialogue that could save the kid's life. So, three stars for the book, but five stars for the educational content that I feel every kid - and his/her parents - has a right to be exposed to.

Whatâ€™s crazy about this book is that so much of this was eerily similar to events that happened much more recently: What happened in Baltimore and Ferguson, to name just two. Unfortunately, stories of police brutality disproportionately being inflicted on people with brown and black skin hasnâ€™t changed much since what Luis Rodriguez experienced in his youth.One thing I didnâ€™t like about this book was that he jumped around time-wise for reasons that werenâ€™t clear to me. Heâ€™d talk about stuff that happened in 1970 and then suddenly weâ€™re back in 1968, back and forth. Sometimes heâ€™d be talking about being 15 and suddenly weâ€™re talking about events that happened when he was 9. There were lots of characters, too. These two things meant it wasnâ€™t always easy to follow the narrative.My favorite part of the book was when he and a Chicano girl tried out to become the school mascots Joe and Josephine Aztec because their community was tired of Anglo students filling the role and making the characters look like bumbling morons. Luis and Esme do an authentic Aztec dance in authentic Aztec dress. It was a part of building community pride and the scene made me tear up.His story of the violence and prejudice and poverty he was subjected to meant joining what they called â€œclubsâ€ and the media called â€œgangsâ€ for protection seem like a logical thing to do. That he got out alive and became a published writer is the surprising part of the story.

Michael Alder has not been a stellar member of polite society-or any manner of society since his broken engagement to Jenny. After a slight indiscretion with Miss Ada Ellis, of which he was too drunk to properly remember, his fate is set. Ada is set for revenge on Lord Vile and manages to peak his curiosity and his interest in her. This is a very well written story of redemption. I was not prepared to like the Hero in this story. His past actions were so â€œVileâ€. By the end of the story, he may now be my favorite character in this series.

Releasing a vile lord on all the unsuspecting Lords and Lady's.He has one supporter who is watching him from afar in hopes that she can wait out this whole vile situation so that she might take him off the market and be the luckiest lady of the season.We have to very different types of personalities that through all the twists and turns must both be able to see the light at the end of this long and sometimes hopeless road.Great read going from one side of the English ton to the dark side and back when deemed necessary.

Extensive heavy drinking to beyond the point of sobriety and bad judgments, sexual advances, and memories will affect one sometimes for years, into the future. Romantic Historical Regency Novel with a Lady who is interested in stocks, yet can't buy them on her own, and she wants revenge using them! Great portrayal of an alcoholic always needing a drink to do anything: 1 to ride in carriage, 1 to eat, 1 to get off horses, and so on! Just if you do something drink 1, decide on something, drink 1, (not counting the drinks you sip on it drink while planning/or the doing of something) get ready to go, drink 1, go drink 1, get there, drink 1, leave, drink 1, & so on... It might seem tedious but drinking and drinkers are tedious and the more people know this the better. Plus, health problems, far flushed face and gout, eewww. Being innocent she didn't realize how her life would quickly change when she allowed him to kiss her in the garden. Ashamed and ruined, Ada left London the next day. She's come back with a son and a different name and is determined to make Michael suffer for the way he treated her.She wasnâ€™t expecting to fall in love with him but he's kind and she enjoys his company and he loves her son.Loved the story as much as the first 2 stories in this series. They're all a great read.

As he continues these behaviors he gains a terrible reputation for his behaviors, and the nickname â€œLord Vileâ€.Lady Ada Kathryn Ellis is in her second season and compares each man she meets to the crush she had two years or more prior from before she was out in society, Michael Adler. Ada goes to a ball and runs into him there. Ada is young, bright eyed and naive, and does not know of his reputation. It does not go as she has fantasized all of these past years, as young girls often do.A few years later, Ada, due to her own talents and the support of her loving family, she has a home of her own in London, and a two year old son. She is living as a â€œwidowâ€. But she still harbors a great anger about that meeting long ago with Lord Vile, and she has an elaborate plan to exact her pound of flesh. But, will it produce that results she has imagined in her head the last three years?This is the third book in this series and I really enjoyed it. The characters are complex and interesting as is the situation each finds themself in within the plot. It is not the usual â€œtropeâ€ and it held an emotional depth that made it all the more appealing. I am looking forward to the next book in this series as well.

I've been getting French Country Diaries for seven years. Every year I think they can't get better or more perfect photos and every year they do. I get it early and immediately put in all the birthdays and anniversaries and keep it with my current one so I can add events as they come up - keeps me from looking foolish from forgetting something! It's gorgeous, sturdy and room to write on every date.

Beautiful, unusual, and a useful size for actually listing appointments. I've been buying these books since 2004. They are a reminder of what I was actually doing and what was important and at the same time, a continuing question, why was I there, doing what I was, in such a soulless place? I'm happy to report I now live in a beautiful little town in one of the most beautiful places in the world, but not France.

I LOVE this book. I have ordered one for the last 15 years. It sits on on my kitchen counter in a book holder. I never write in it, just enjoy the beautiful pictures. It is also a topic of conversation whenever someone visits. I also use them a gifts, which everyone cherishes. A big joy when it arrives. I have kept them over the years and refer to them before a trip to France! PLEASE, NEVER STOP PUBLISHING!

I have been annually purchasing this calendar book for over 15 years and love it. The photos are well done and Dannenberg includes interesting information about each one.

I've been using the diary for years. I know I should switch to putting everything on my phone; but, I just love having the beautiful photos that come along each week's calendar. Also, I like the large square blocks for writing in appointments as well as the fact that I can see an entire week at a glance and see how booked up I am.

I get this calendar/appointment book every year for my sister and myself for Christmas. We love France, have been there many times andthe pictures in this calendar brings back so many fond memories. There are also large enough boxes on each day to write down appointments.The only reason I gave this year's calendar four stars is because I'm not as in love with the cover as in other years.I hope they never stop making this diary!

I use this calendar every year!! I love it and expect it to be offered for a very, very long time. There are beautiful photos, tasteful and artistic detailing, it has a hard cover with a ribbon marker. The photos are on every page, which many calendars no longer have. I highly recommend this calendar.

Beautiful planner. The *only* thing I regret is not checking to make sure it had a monthly view of each month since I use this often. If this is not something youâ€™ll need and you want to feel transported to a new part of France with each passing week then youâ€™ll love this planner.
