From Kitty West (a very biased friend)...My plan was to read a few chapters of Anno Draconis then get to bed. But I couldn't stop reading! I finished it this morning just as the sun began to rise. Yes. It's THAT good! I'm already personally involved with the book's characters ~ I love the many personalities...like real life, a little good and bad in all of us. It engaged my entire focus from the first sentence ~ I kept thinking I'd put it down as soon as the chapter ended~ hahaha... then I was at the last page, longing for another chapter.The only thing I really hated about Anno Draconis was that I ran out of pages to read when the book ended! Steve Bivans THIS is SPECTACULAR ! I have no intention of being one of those kind of people who try to rush a brilliant artist ~ but... when do you think Part Two will be out ?Â

If you're brave enough to begin, hang on to your shields my friends, because it's gonna be a long and exciting journey!I have no intention of ever finishing this series: Liber Draconis (Book of the Dragon). I fully expect to die, some day 50 years from now, with my pen in hand working on yet another tome. Part Two- Anno Draconis: Reign of Wolves is already in a full, rough draft (as of the time of the release of Part One), and I have already begun on Part Three- Anno Draconis: City of Light, Kingdom of Serpents. The concept of this tale allows me to explore without limits, so I won't get bored, and I'm sure you will not, either. If you're a stickler for accurate history, you're in the right place. But when I say accurate, I mean I won't break the bones of history, to create the flesh of fiction. But I do allow the fiction to wander where it will. I will not alter historical fact, but I do believe in magic. Not the flashy, wands and wizards stuff. Real magic, deep down in the bones of the earth, in the words we use to create the world. And my stories are full of real magic. At least I hope they are. But I reckon that's up to you to decide!

So often we find ourselves reading a book and enjoying every word. Rarely though do we find ourselves transported to another time and place feeling as though we are not just watching the scene, but instead a part of it. Not since I was avidly reading the work of Louis Lamour, the great western writer, have I felt so enthralled with the vivid description of the words on a page. Let Steve Bivans pull you back in time where you will find yourself at once both loving and hating the Northmen and particularly Sigurd. You will be in awe that a man so brutal also abides by a code of conduct that would have no woman defiled or child harmed and God have mercy on your soul if you break the code, because Northman or not, if you break the code, you will feel the wrath of the dragon...

This is a really exciting adventure story; it has war, blood & gore, Vikings, strategy, revenge, suffering... You name it. But much more than that, the tale is informed and lives within accurate history of the Viking invasion of what's now France, and the push to take Paris in AD 885. The author did a Master's thesis (also available on Amazon), translating one of the original sources for this history.And yet more wonderful things: three-dimensional, believable characters, thrust into the worst of times, when war walks the land.I heartily recommend this book.

I really liked the setting of Vikings invading France. The human cost to the peasants was astounding, the characters just came to life and made it very real. The story is just rivetting and I read it in two days!

This a real treat for those of us tired of fake Vikings. So often portrayed on TV as tattooed Bikers with axes. Historical fiction the way it should be written. Based in facts, like Patrick O’Brians writing, Bivans transports you to another place with such varasity you can smell it. John C.

All of Steve's books are great this one kicks off with some of the best and bloodiest war writing I've ever read. Brilliant job

Having read "Be A Hobbit-Save The Earth" I thought I was familiar with Steve's writing style; I was wrong. While this is an entirely different genre, the writing is excellent. This is a work of fiction, albeit historical fiction and I'm having trouble putting it down. The characters that have been introduced are so vibrant, so real in their humanity, I can almost hear their voices as I read. Steve has a real knack for dialogue and for descriptive phrasing. It IS bloody, but it was a bloody time in history. I am thoroughly enjoying this and can't wait to finish it!

Too much blood and tension for me. Others that feel that historical fiction is typically too bland and that battle scenes are too "sanitary" might really be happier with this one.Two stars from me means that I finished the book, but had to hop back and forth a bit to do it and possibly skip some parts.
